    Resist

Coating material used in etching, in tin-lead coating, during the application of solder, and in wave soldering with the purpose of protecting components of the circuit board from oxidation by contact with the etching solution or the solder. There are different kinds of resist, such as photo foil (dry film resist or a three-layered foil consisting of a support film, photosensitive plastic and a protective film), organic resists made of commercially available plastics (e.g. polyamide, polyethylene, or urethane), or metallic masks act. In metallic masks, tin-lead coating is mainly used, but gold or rhodium resists are also manufactured. These are known as solder resists.
