    TAB

Abbreviation for Tape Automated Bonding. Currently, plastic tapes with a diameter of 35 mm are preferred, but widths of 8 and 16 mm are also commonly in use. The tape is first coated with copper and etched and then the chip is installed and wired with a suitable soldering method. This mounting method is used especially in the mass production of clocks and other devices requiring very small circuitry.
