    Notching effect

When at one point a notch or a crack appears on a body or its cross-section changes abruptly, then this may be the onset for quickly progressing material fractures since the mechanical stress accumulates at that spot. Although this is a universal phenomenon, its occurrence is different depending on the shape and the material. This effect is particularly strong when the notching effect is stressed repeatedly.
