Soldering terminology

An empty space in the lattice of a crystal with no atoms. It is a type of crystal lattice defect. Vacancies can migrate in the crystal lattice or pair up to form double vacancies. Several vacancies may cluster to form pores. Not be confused with blow holes caused by gas escaping from molten metal. See also Kirkendall effect .
