    Solder resist

    Materials used for coating surfaces that do not require soldering to protect against contact with solder. The compounds listed Table 1 are generally used for this purpose. The bulk of the solder resist is organic material. Melamine-based varnish falls into this category, although it has the disadvantage that toxic formaldehyde is produced during its condensation. Still, they are widely used in the production of PCBs due to their low cost. In turn, though UV-curing solder resists have poorer coating properties, they are used in consumer electronics because of their good processability in PCBs. Table 2 lists the different solder resists and their characteristics.
