    Castellation Soldering

    Soldering technology where the components without connecting wires, for example Leadless Chip Carriers are secured with solder not only on the underside, but also on the side walls. The word castellation comes from castle and plays at the similarity of the solder fillet with a fortress wall. In contrast, solder joints on the underside of the component are called blind solder because they cannot be seen from outside. See also IPC J-STD-001E 7.5.6.
